St Nicholas continued...

Marika has already eaten her lollies!

Aliana and her sister also left their boots at Marika's house and look what they got!

Season's Greetings

When Mrs Simmons calls the roll in the morning and after lunch we greet her using different languages. Today we decided to have a different Christmas saying each morning. The Busy Bees, Learning Ladybirds and Successful Spiders all got together and wrote as many sayings as they could think of. Then we all met and decided which ones we would use.

Here are the winning sayings!

December
Week 7
5th Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas
6th Reindeer rock!
7th Candy cane Christmas
8th Santa Rocks!
9th Good morning Mrs Santa Claus!

Week 8

13th Have a presentastic day!
14th Magical Christmas morning!
15th Move that Sleigh!
16th Happy holidays!

St Nicholas visits Marika

Marika was very excited this morning because she had a visit from St Nicholas last night. She cleaned her shoes and left them outside the front door and this morning her shoes were filled with lollies and she got a new drink bottle - what a great tradition! We looked on the internet and found out more about St Nicholas. We think he sounds a lot like Father Christmas.

In Germany, Nikolaus is usually celebrated on a small scale. Many children put a boot called Nikolaus-Stiefel (Nikolaus boot) outside the front door on the night of 5 December. St. Nicholas fills the boot with gifts and sweets overnight, and at the same time checks up on the children to see if they were good, polite and helpful the last year. If they were not, they will have a tree branch (Rute) in their boots instead. Sometimes a disguised Nikolaus also visits the children at school or in their homes and asks them if they have been good (sometimes ostensibly checking his golden book for their record), handing out presents on a per-behavior basis. This has become more lenient in recent decades.

Our Christmas Grotto

In Room 15 we have busily been preparing a Christmas grotto. The class surprised me by decorating the tree. We have made some cute decorations. Would you like to come and look at our display?

Charlotte the artist

Look at the amazing picture that Charlotte painted! She goes to an art class. Charlotte sketches the picture first and then she paints using brush stroke techniques that her teacher taught her. Well done Charlotte - this is amazing!

It's Book Week

Yeah! Book Week has finally arrived! We will visit the book display in Room 1 on Monday morning. Have you decided what you are going to wear for the book character parade on Wednesday? Remember to bring along the book too and we will try and read it during the day. There is a quiz in the library for us to enter - yippee!
