We had great fun this morning discussing and predicting what would happen when we added hot or cold water to ice, a marble, raro, honey, sand, salt and pepper. The children recorded the results on a table on the whiteboard.

Thank you!!
"When the going gets tough, the tough eat chocolate". Thank you for looking after our kids and school so well. Kia Kaha St Albans!

Thank you to our wonderful parents who made a lovely morning tea for the staff. We were each presented with a great new coffee mug filled with chocolates and a hot drink sachet. The thank you was for looking after the children over the past 6 months during the earthquakes. It's great to work in such a supportive school and community!

See you in the morning
Hi Everyone. School will be open tomorrow - Thursday 16 June. It will be great to see all your smiling faces again! I saw Jessica and her Mum and Jack this morning at school. Thanks for helping me tidy up the room. We also saw Jesse, Alex and Rebecca today when we were buying fruit and veges in Edgeware. We got our meat at Peter Timbs Meats and the butcher gave me a cheerio as well as Bell and Maddie - yum. Lets have a fun day tomorrow! Love from Mrs Simmons

Is it a double yolker?
Thanks for your comment Anna - we are all wondering if the huge egg my hen laid is a double yolker! I'll bring it to school when we reopen and we'll break it and see. Actually if we break it we will need to cook something yummy with it - any ideas? School is closed again tomorrow - Wednesday 15th June as the school needs to be checked by a structural engineer before it can reopen. You are welcome to come to school on Wednesday morning at 10am to help clean up the liquifaction - bring a broom or a water blaster if you have one. Stay safe. Love from Mrs Simmons

School closed tomorrow
Well done everyone - you all did the right thing when the after shock happened. I am so proud of you all! School will be closed tomorrow - Tuesday 14th June. I will let you know when we will reopen. Chris has dug another long drop, Lucy our cat is hiding under the bed and one of our chooks has laid an enormous egg! Isabel and Maddie have been helping us to tidy up. Stay safe and enjoy being with your families.

More solubility ideas...
We asked some experts:
* A 93 year old Nana
* A brother
* Dad
* Google search on the computer
* Mum
* A friend's Dad
* Grandad
* Nana
This is what we found out:
Solubility is when something dissolves
When you mix stuff together it will dissolve
If you put something hard in a liquid it will dissolve like putting jelly crystals into hot water or if you put honey in hot water.
Here's a question from Mrs Simmons - If you put sand into water, why doesn't it dissolve?

See you on Tuesday
Hi Class. Mrs Warren, Mr McKenzie and Mrs Howison have checked school after the 5.5 aftershock this morning and everything is absolutely fine. Isabel and Maddie helped me to change Sophie's tank today and she now has new water weed and new stones. See you in the morning. Love from Mrs Simmons.

St John Ambulance visit
There are 3 emergency services. 1. Fire brigade. 2. The Police. 3. The Ambulance.
When we need to contact the emergency services, we ring 111. We need to know which emergency service we need. They will ask us where we live - our street name and the number on our letter box, our phone number and which city we live in. When the children can tell me their address, phone number and the city they live I will give them a St John Ambulance certificate!

The Year 2 Sing-a-long
On Wednesday 1 June we had a wonderful sing-a-long in the hall. It was the last time we will sing as a team in the old hall. Thanks to family members, friends and our buddy classes who came to watch.
