Wacky Hair Day

Today is the last day of term 3. We had a wacky hair day and mufti day to raise money for the Jump Jam Team who have made it to the national finals in Taupo. What great hair styles the children had. Have a wonderful holiday break with your children and I'll see you all on Monday 11 October.

Wombat

Here are the photos of the cute kuni kuni pig that visited our class yesterday. Wombat belongs to a pig farmer in Burnham. She will leave buckets at school and we will put our fruit break scraps in the bucket. The farmer will collect the buckets during the week and Wombat and his family will eat the scraps.

Welcome back

Welcome back to school everybody. It was great to see you all at school yesterday and today. We have had some earthquake drills and we have had to stop, drop and hold today. The children were wonderful and knew exactly what to do. If your circumstances have changed since the earthquake can you please let me know as it is important that we have up to date emergency contact numbers. We had a very interesting visitor to our class today - I'll put some photos of 'Wombat' on the blog tomorrow. Our Big Day Out trip to QE2 next week has been cancelled. I will keep you updated on any other happenings we plan as a result of the cancellation. Kind regards, Nicky Simmons

Hi there

Today we had a staff meeting at school and we are all looking forward to seeing you on Monday morning. I have taken Sophie the frog home for the weekend to feed her up on flies. Maybe you could catch her some and bring them to school on Monday morning. Isabel and Maddie helped me catch 2 flies outside in the garden in the sun this afternoon. On Monday morning we will have an earthquake practise so we all know what to do at school if there are any aftershocks. I am looking forward to seeing you in our new classroom. Can you remember who you will be sitting beside? What games would you like to play on Monday? Let's sing our favourite songs! Have a good weekend. Love from Mrs Simmons

Monday 13 September - school re opens

School will re open on Monday 13 September. I have been to school again today and there were two toys that had fallen on the floor from the after shocks - I have put them back on top of the whiteboard. I will be at school on Friday morning at 9am to help with the clean up. If any parents are able to come and help it would be appreciated - please bring a shovel, broom or other cleaning equipment that you have. Enjoy the rest of your week with your lovely children. Kind regards, Nicky Simmons

School to open on Thursday

Good morning. I hope you are all okay after the after shocks last night. Isabel, Maddie, Lucy (the cat) and myself ended up sleeping under the kitchen table and Chris was close by on the couch. Ginnie and the BoT have made the decision to keep school closed on Wednesday and to re open on Thursday as long as the water and sewerage is okay and also due to after shock concerns from last night. I will update this blog if the situation changes. I hope you all get a chance to enjoy the sunshine today and that you have a good rest tonight. See you on Thursday. Mrs Simmons

No school for 2 days

Dear Room 3 children and families. St Albans School will be closed for Monday and Tuesday this week. I have been to school and there is no major damage to our new classroom. The chairs were on the floor and a vase was broken. Some games were tipped out and there were some cupboards open. My desk looked tidier than it ever was in the old classroom! Our computer was on the floor. I have put it back up and it still works - yahoo. Sophie our frog is fine and I have fed her and filled up her swimming pool with fresh bottled water as the last thing we want is our Sophie with a sore tummy. Garfield is fine and he can't wait to go home with you all. Maybe you could write Garfield a letter and tell him what you did when the earthquake happened. Please check the school web site for re-opening details and I will update this blog when I have more information. Take care, Love from Mrs Simmons

The Big Shake

I hope you are all safe and well after the earthquake on Saturday morning - not a great way to start the weekend. Please listen to radio / tv reports for information on when school will reopen. We were lucky not to sustain too much damage at our house, however I know quite a few school families who have suffered a lot of damage to their houses. It is a huge relief that there have not been any major injuries to members of our school community. Take care and I look forward to seeing you all in our new classroom when school reopens. Love from Nicky (Mrs Simmons)
