Clustr Map Count

Wow - we have now had 116 visitors to our blog! It's great to see some comments too. Who else could you share our blog with? Remember to tell them to click on the clustr map so their visit is counted. Have you played any of our reading or maths games?

Korean language

Tae Yeong has been in our class for nearly 2 weeks. She has been teaching us about Korea. In the mornings we sign our names in Korean.

It's maths week

This week is maths week. We have been solving some mathematics problems at the beginning of each day. All the children have been estimating numbers - how many legs would 2 cows and a duck have altogether? Can you think of some other problems to solve together? We are learning to skip count in 2's, 5's and 10's. Children are enjoying working in their numeracy groups - especially when they are the leader.

Measurement Fun

This term we have been learning about measurement. We used the water tray and containers to experiment with water.

Blog Blitz!

We are having a blog blitz at school for the month of August. When you look at our blog, can you please click on the cluster map and this will record that you have looked at our blog. You will see the tally at the bottom of the cluster map. Our tally for today (2 August) is 73 - lets see if we can double our score this month!

Copying from the Whiteboard

Phoenix, Marina, Lachlan, Leia, Sujeong and Sakura are now copying their printing form the whiteboard!

Welcome to our teacher trainee

Today we welcomed Tae Yeong to our school with a traditional Maori welcome - a Powhiri in Room 11. Tae Yeong will be with us for the next 2 weeks.

Garfield looks warm!

Today Holly came to school with Garfield. She took him home for the night because she had had such a wonderful day at school yesterday. Mrs Simmons and the class got such a surprise when they saw Garfield wrapped up for the cold weather in a scarf and woolly hat - what a great idea Holly.

Poetry Competition

The Year 1 and 2 children have been practising their poems at home and in class. On Friday 11 June the Room 3 children had their poetry competition. We set the room up with chairs and an area for the contestants to sit. All the children recited their poem to a captive audience. Lachlan was placed first, Adam was second and Sakura was third. All children tried their hardest and it was a great event. On Wednesday 16th June we had the Year 1 and 2 overall finals at English Park. We were all very proud of the children and the high standard that they set. Well done!

Heart Jam

What a great end to a very busy week! The children all dressed in red today and brought a gold coin donation along to give to Heart Children New Zealand. We have been learning the Heart Jam aerobic moves and plenty of Jump Jam dances - our favourite dance at the moment is Kung Fu Fighting. At 10.00am the whole school met on the court and we did Jump Jam and the Heart Jam song for half an hour - it was great to see some parents watching too. Krystal won a hydroslide pass and Leia won a Clip'n'Climb pass for awesome jump jamming, some children also got stickers. The children are now helping me with the blog, so watch this space and enjoy the photos. Have a great long weekend. Nicky Simmons
